Vulture has landed the first ever clip from Focus Features’ animated horror comedy ParaNorman, which takes place in “a small town that comes under siege by zombies. Who can it call? Only misunderstood local boy Norman (voiced by Kodi Smit-McPhee), who is able to speak with the dead. In addition to the zombies, he’ll have to take on ghosts, witches and, worst of all, grown-ups, to save his town from a centuries-old curse. But this young ghoul whisperer may find his paranormal activities pushed to their otherworldly limits.
In theaters August 17, the clip introduces Norman’s family member who explains what must be done to end the town’s curse.
The voice cast includes Academy Award nominee Casey Affleck (The Killer Inside Me ), Tempestt Bledsoe (“The Cosby Show”), Jeff Garlin (Toy Story 3), John Goodman (Red State, Matinee, Monsters, Inc.), Bernard Hill (Titanic), Academy Award nominee Anna Kendrick (Up in the Air), Leslie Mann (Rio), Christopher Mintz-Plasse (Fright Night 3D, How to Train Your Dragon), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Let Me In) and Tony and Emmy Award winner Elaine Stritch (“30 Rock”), Tucker Albrizzi (Good Luck Charlie), Alex Borstein (“Family Guy”), Jodelle Ferland (Case 39, Silent Hill, The Twilight Saga: Eclipse).
Following LAIKA and Focus’ groundbreaking Academy Award-nominated animated feature Coraline, ParaNorman is only the second stop-motion animated feature to be made in 3D.

Brad Anderson (Session 9, The Machinist) is back with psychological horror movie Blood, and it’s first coming to theaters on January 27 before arriving On Demand on January 31.
While you wait, check out a brand new second clip from the movie below, wherein Michelle Monaghan‘s character is driven to murder in order to feed her hungry child…
Michelle Monaghan (“True Detective”) stars alongside Skeet Ulrich (Scream), Finlay Wojtak-Hissong, Rodrigo Beilfuss, Erik Athavale, June B. Wilde, and Skylar Morgan Jones.
“The film follows Jess (Michelle Monaghan), a nurse and mother recently separated from her husband (Skeet Ulrich), who moves with her daughter Tyler (Skylar Morgan Jones) and young son Owen (Finlay Wojtak-Hissong) back into her old farmhouse. Shortly after settling in, Owen’s dog escapes into the woods and returns days later, blood-soaked and rabid. When he attacks and bites Owen, the resulting infection from the bite grows more alarming by the day as Owen’s behavior becomes frightening and deadly.
“As he spirals deeper into the depths of the illness, Jess discovers a disturbing cure, which makes her question how far she is willing to go to keep her child alive.”
“Brad Anderson has delivered the quintessential horror film with a cast, led by Monaghan and Ulrich, that delivers on every level,” said Vertical Entertainment Partner Peter Jarowey. “We are excited to be back in business with Hercules Film Fund and Rhea Films and feel this holiday counter-programming will thrill audiences long after we ring in the new year.”
The script was written by Will Honley.
