Iva Ann Boas Lester of Seymour, formerly of Princeton, KY died Thursday, January 13, 2022 at 8:30 am after an extended illness.
Iva was born February 3, 1941 in Seymour, Indiana. She was the first of seven children to Ray F. Boas and Mary Lee Ashcraft Boas. She attended St. Ambrose Catholic School and Shields High School, class of 1959. After graduation, she obtained her Cosmetology license and ran her own beauty salon. She also attended Hopkinsville Community College and worked for the Kentucky Agriculture Statistics Service as a NASDA Field Enumerator.
In 1978, Iva married the love of her life, Gene Lester. Their shared passion was working with the Elks Lodge, both at the State and local level and traveling. She was the first of many female members at the Princeton, KY Lodge #1115.
Iva was preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Gene, a son Larry Dale Hammond, brothers, Ray F. “Smokey” Boas and Henry Earl Boas, and sisters, Janice Lee Boas Kirkpatrick and Carol Jo Norris.
She is survived by her nephew, Darrin and his family, Shawna, Brandon and Morgan Boas, sister-in-law, Wilma (Glenn) Boas Murphy, brother, Paul (Eileen) Boas, sister, Mary (Mark) Shepherd, son, Mark Allen Hammond and many dear friends in Seymour and Princeton, KY.
Visitation will be from 12 pm until service time at 2 pm, Sunday, January 16, 2022 at Burkholder Chapel of Thorne-George Family Funeral Homes, 419 N. Chestnut Street, Seymour, IN. Deacon Mike East from St. Ambrose Catholic Church will officiate the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Elks National Foundation, St. Ambrose Building and Grounds or Cars and Guitars through Burkholder Funeral Chapel.
