The Waldorf Astoria got a massive dose of inspiration last night, thanks to the YMA Fashion Scholarship Fund’s 50th anniversary of the Geoffrey Beene Fashion Impact Awards. Leave it to Lanvin’s adorably bespectacled leading man to bring the poignant punch. On the premises: an array of notable industry movers and shakers, including the eve’s host, Alina Cho of CNN, designer Bibhu Mohapatra, W’s Stefano Tonchi, Paper’s Kim Hastreiter and the guest of honor, Lanvin’s Alber Elbaz. Each year 130 standout fashion students from colleges around the country are invited, with the top eight receiving scholarships to pursue their dreams with aid from the fund. And dreams are just what honorary lifetime achievement recipient Elbaz, was on hand to discuss. “When I arrived in New York I had two suitcases: one little one for my clothes and a big one for my dreams.” Why the connection between Elbaz and Beene’s namesake org? A former protégé of Beene, Elbaz designed for Beene for seven years.
Remember way back in 2010 when we asked if StyledOn was going to become the Facebook of fashion? Two years later, we are pleased to report that it’s more than a Facebook fashion stalking platform; it’s a bridge between consumers and brands.

Martha Stewart asking Marc Jacobs who his favorite porn star is? Indeed, that happened! Last night at the WWD Apparel & Retail CEO Summit opening night dinner at The Plaza, the domestic diva took to Twitter to ask her followers to submit questions for Jacobs and she went there. The crowd included Pamela Love, Olivier Theyskens, Proenza Schouler’s Lazaro Hernandez and Jack McCollough, Elettra Wiedemann, Yigal Azrouel, Eric Wilson, and Tom Florio as Bridget Foley facilitated a discussion with the evening’s keynote speaker. Some newsy items came up, as is the outcome of any heavily industry attended bread-breaking situation, non? To wit: Marc is working on a beauty line with Sephora, his all-time favorite designer dead or alive is Miuccia Prada, and he’s in negotiations with LVMH. But it was that porn question that intrigued the most. The answer? A retired “actor” named Eddie whose last name remains a mystery. Let’s file this away as things we didn’t quite need to know.
Think outside of the box, darlings. Oversized totes and satchels are all too ubiquitous, so consider trading up to a more petite box-shaped clutch, freeing you to juggle with that oversized coat instead. May we suggest an eco-friendly Emm Kuo detailed with geometric stones constructed with shell fragments sourced from the beaches of Filipino province Cebu? Mosaic-esque and madly chic!
Hello, gorgeous! Laetitia Casta appears in the Reed Krakoff Spring campaign that the designer shot himself at the Academy Mansion in New York. Look for the ads to start rolling out internationally in March. Fun fact! The hair stylist on the shoot was Didier Malige, aka Grace Coddington’s main squeeze.
At last! Jason Wu’s exclusive line for Nordstrom, Miss Wu, has finally hit stores and the www. The line is more downtown-ish than we’re used to and takes on Wu’s vision of the modern gamine with a hint of sixties inspiration. The collection is also a wee bit more affordable than Wu’s regular line with prices ranging from $195 for a blouse to $795 for a leather biker jacket. Go on now! Have a looky!
Just a few short hours ago, rumor had it that current golden boy Alexander Wang tapped CR editrix Carine Roitfeld to take on the role of stylist at his new très grand post as designer for Balenciaga. Alas, the buzz got nipped in the bud by NY Times’ Eric Wilson, who went straight to Roitfeld for the truth: that’s a nay, alas.
Who wouldn’t want their picture taken with Martha? Last night Jack McCollough and Lazaro Hernandez had their moment with the Queen at the WWD Apparel & Retail Summit dinner at The Plaza. It was a good thing.
The NY Post has revealed their ’13 Under 30′ list of the female NYC power players who are rocking it all before hitting the ancient age of thirty. Naturally quite a few of our fashion peeps made the list including Man Repeller’s Leandra Medine, publicist Sydney Reising, Sally LaPointe, Alessandra Codinha, Danielle Snyder, and DJ Chelsea Leyland. Better luck next year, loves.
